Kampos estate lanes
Why walk it
High stone walls, citrus behind them, and the tower houses of the Genoese and Chiot merchant families.
The route
1Begin at the Citrus estate and walk out into the lane network without a fixed route.
2Look for carved gateways, the mangana waterwheels and the red-stone corner quoins.
3Step inside any estate that is open to visitors — several serve juice and preserves.
4Loop back on a parallel lane; the plain is a grid, so you cannot get badly lost.

Before you set out
The estates are private homes and working orchards. Photograph gateways from the lane, not over walls.
