Agio Galas is one of Chios's most unusual northern excursions, combining natural history, archaeology and religion in the same dramatic setting. The cave has evidence of prehistoric occupation, while later churches were built into and around the rock at its entrance, creating a striking dialogue between landscape and worship. Its remote position makes the journey through Amani part of the experience rather than simply the road to an attraction.
